About the book

Everyone is familiar with the quote "I woke up like this." It symbolizes the artificial world created on social media. But how far does one go for that perfect selfie? This project conducts an investigation into the selfie culture, and the outcome is a book based on found footage.

Concept

How do you bring order to all those selfies online? And how do you tell a story with all that found footage? The discovered selfies are categorized into various chapters. Subsequently, the chapters are arranged based on impact or danger. This results in a photo book that reads almost like a thriller.

Design

For the cover, we keep it simple. White with only the hashtag as the title. We opted for a spiral binding to achieve the look and feel of a scrapbook where we collect things.

The pages are entirely filled with selfies, creating impact through the sheer quantity of photos. To enhance the overall effect, quotes that were actually used with one of the selfies are added. These quotes appear on a small page, the size of a post, with a colorful background. At least in the beginning of the book. As the theme becomes darker, the color becomes more subdued, culminating in black.
